Hamza Yassin is a wildlife cameraman and photographer who lives on the remote Ardnamurchan peninsular in Lochaber. He is also an ornithologist and conservationist. Believe it or not, he and his partner Jowita were also outright winners of BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing in 2022. In 2024 Hamza presented his own BBC documentary programme entitled ‘Hamza’s Strictly Birds of Prey’ and he has a new documentary series entitled Hamza’s Hidden Wild Isles coming out in the very near future.

BBC unveils climate conference speakers at 2024 event. Wildlife cameraman Hamza Yassin will be interviewed at the conference by Charlotte Moore. Charlotte is the BBC’s Chief Content Officer, responsible for all the BBC’s network TV and Radio output.
You would have to go back over ten years ago, when Hamza drove up to the West coast of Scotland to visit a friend. He thought it would be a great place to take photos of the local wildlife. Hamza loved that part of the country so much, a couple of weeks later he permanently moved to the area. It was a bit rough to begin with, nowhere to stay and single track roads. He actually lived in his car for a number of months to begin with but his photography work was being noticed and he had a small income from showing tourists around the area.
It was on BBC’s The One Show that Hamza started his TV career as one of their regular wildlife presenters. Hamza with his distinctive dreadlocks was by CBeebies who created the character Ranger Hamza for him on his shows Let’s Go For A Walk and Echo Quest.
Channel 4 had now taken notice and they commissioned a documentary series called, Scotland: My Life in the Wild. A second show was then commissioned by Ch4, where Hamza took a number of celebrities around his favourite places and landscapes around Scotland. The Reverend Richard Coles, Ben Miller, Baroness Sayeeda Warsi and Martin Clunes were all guests on the show.
