Jim Delahunt is a leading journalist and broadcaster who is available for after-dinner speaking and event-hosting. He is currently a football & racing columnist for the Scottish Sun . This is as well as being the Raceday Presenter at Scotland’s premier racecourse, Ayr.
The vastly experienced frontman has a wealth of sporting stories and can provide a cutting insight into the worlds of television and radio when it comes to covering football, rugby and horse-racing at the highest levels.
Scotsport:
Jim is one of Scotland’s best known broadcasters having presented football and rugby on Scottish Television for 16 years. He was also the face of French and German football on Setanta Sports for 3 years after that. Jim Delahunt became the face of STV’s flagship sports show Scotsport just before the 1998 World Cup in France. He later competed a notable broadcast double by presenting Radio Clyde’s Superscoreboard programme for 5 years between 2010 and 2015.
Jim presented and reported at Euro 92 and Euro 96 before presenting Scotland’s last appearance at the World Cup Finals in 1998. He also reported and presented at 4 Rugby World Cup Finals tournaments in 1991, 95, 99 and 2003.
Writing:
As a writer, Jim’s credits include the Sunday Standard, the Daily Winner (Editor), Sunday Herald (12 years), The Scottish Farmer (20 years) and the Scottish Sun, with his current columnist status at the Sun dating back to 2010.
In 2018, Jim won the Coral/Racing Post Naps Table to decide the champion tipster in Britain and Ireland. This was over the course of the 2017/18 jumps season. He later finished second in the 2021 Flat Table before securing the 2024 Flat title by a record margin. Here Jim joined a select group of pundits who’ve won both championships, jumps and Flat.
Jim the jockey:
He also rode as an amateur jockey between the ages of 32 and 41 before finally giving up due to a back injury. That personal experience of horse-racing has been a major advantage in his current part-time role at Ayr racecourse.
Jim’s distinctive and recognisable voice booms around the track when he presents the action at the home of the Scottish Grand National and Ayr Gold Cup. He also conducts the key post-race interviews with some of the biggest names in the sport.
Jim Delahunt’s charity work has extended to a solo parachute jump in aid of the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust in 1998. He also served as Chairman of the Glasgow branch of Riding for the Disabled.
Jim’s after-dinner tales cover a wide range of sporting subjects. He is also a superb, professional host for all types of events, sporting and non sporting.
