Dermot Murnaghan is one of the best known newscasters in the UK. Having presented BBC Breakfast on BBC1 for five years he was until February of 2023 the face of SKY News. Dermot Had been with Sky for 15 years.
He joined the BBC in 2003 after many years with ITN. During that time he fronted all ITV’s major bulletins, including News at Ten, and also presented Channel 4 News.
Dermot presented the ratings success Eggheads, a quiz show for BBC2. He was the first presenter from 2003 and stayed with the show until 2014. He also presented the spin-off shows Celebrity Eggheads and Are You An Egghead? .
Dermot then presented the science show Human Guinea Pig on Bravo, which saw the rugby star Gavin Henson take part in an experiment to withstand an electric current of 250,000 volts.
His incisive interviewing style has been recognised by a number of awards, including the Royal Television Society’s Interviewer of The Year Award in 1999 for his interview with Peter Mandelson, which resulted in the latter’s resignation from the Cabinet.
