Alex Jones is a Welsh presenter who co-hosts BBC’s flagship magazine programme The One Show. It was in 2010 when she first landed the One Show role, working with Chris Evans and Jason Manford. Jason was later replaced in 2011 by Matt Baker who stayed with the show until announcing in 2020 he had to leave to spend more time with his family. Alex stayed on and still presents the show to this day.
As a fluent welsh speaker, Alex Jones’s television career began working for Welsh Channel S4C, and she went on to present a variety of shows for the channel. Alex presented Tocyn, a stylised travel series offering alternative holidays. Chwa was a Welsh language extreme sport series. Then there was, Salon, a style and fashion programme and in 2010 Alex hosted The Big Welsh Talent Concert. She also co-hosted Jonathan with rugby legend Jonathan Davies during the 2010 Six Nations Championship. Alex was also a regular presenter on Real Radio GMG, Wales’ largest commercial station.
In 2009 Alex Jones Welsh Presenter took part in The Magnificent Seven. This was a BAFTA-winning series which saw seven celebrities travel to a ranch in Arizona. They had to learn how to become cowboys. Whilst in the Wild West she recorded a spin-off children’s series called Alex and the Cowboys, also for S4C. Alex went on to present BBC Wales’ contribution to the Children in Need network programme from the Millennium Stadium.
Alex Jones hasn’t looked back since. She presents the daily magazine show from London and has become a mainstay on the channel, presenting Eurovision results and Let’s Dance for Comic Relief for BBC1 in 2011.
Strictly:
Alex’s popularity grew further when she was a semi-finalist on Strictly Come Dancing 2011, which she says was one of the “best times of her life”.
2012 saw Alex dancing at Buckingham Palace on The One Show and co-hosting Lets Dance for Sports Relief. Also, 2012 saw Alex Co-present The Sport Relief Games Show with Matt Baker. The repeated this in 2014 and again in 2016. Other programmes came along. Shop Well for Less was broadcast in 2016 with Alex so-presenting with Steph McGovern.
The Royal Wedding in 2018 saw Alex as a guest presenter for the BBC. In 2022 she Co-presented the Invictus Games along side former Royal Marine, tv presenter and Scottish Games medallist JJ Chalmers.
