Caroline Hamilton is a record breaking polar explorer and a successful businesswoman. Caroline Hamilton shares her experiences and insights into human potential in speeches that are moving, humorous and inspirational.
In June 2002, after 81 days and over 500 miles hauling sledges through appalling polar conditions. Caroline Hamilton and her team-mate, Ann Daniels were hauling sledges equal to their own body weight. In so doing, they reached the North Pole and set two world records. Their third companion, Pom Oliver was airlifted out of the expedition after 47 days. She had been suffering frost bitten, badly infected toes. This left Caroline and Ann to carry on without her.
Caroline along with her friend and travelling companion Ann Daniels are now the first female explorers in history to have trekked to both geographic Poles. They did this as part of an all-women expeditions.
During the Trek the wind was so fierce, at one point the team were trapped under a tarpaulin. This was on the open ice and also lasted for 50 hours without food or heat. They were essentially buried alive under the drifting snow. All suffering frostbite, Caroline could not use her hands for two weeks and this was the point of Pom’s departure from the expedition.
For eight years Caroline was an Investment Banker. She also became a director of Screen Partners. Here she acted as a risk manager for insurance companies financing the international film and also the TV industries. These days she is a much sought after speaker and lecturer.
