Michael Lynagh was born in Brisbane and made his debut for Australia in 1984 against Fiji. He went on to play 72 test matches for his country, including captaining the side through four seasons.
Easily recognised as one of the great rugby fly halves of the game, Michael Lynagh was a key man in Australia’s victorious 1991 World Cup campaign. This wasn’t his first World Cup as he also featured in the 87 tournament.
He is also a former Ambassador for the National Australia Bank in the UK. Michael managed to combine his rugby career with his business interests. He became a Rugby World Cup winner with Australia who remains Australia’s record points scorer to this day.
After notching up 911 points, Michael retired from international rugby, playing his last game in 1995 before joining Saracens.
In 2012 Michael was admitted to hospital in Brisbane after experiencing headaches and dizziness. It turned out to be a serious stroke. After a brief spell in hospital Michael had recovered well but was left with some vision impairments in his eyes. He is happy to talk about the stroke at events.
Michael Lynagh is a regular commentator and analyst with Sky Sports. He is also a well-respected writer. His award winning, best-selling book, Blindsided was published in 2016.
With Michael’s business and speaking background, in 2016 he took up the position of Managing Director EMEA in Europe for Dow Jones Corporate.
