Alan Titchmarsh is one of Britain’s most well-known and best-loved gardeners, having fronted the BBC’s hugely successful Ground Force along with Tommy Walsh and Charlie Dimmock and also BBC’s Gardener’s World. He has twice been named Gardening Writer of the Year and currently contributes to The Express and The Radio Times.
How To Be A Gardener, the book which accompanied his latest BBC gardening series, topped the UK bestsellers list. His current television projects include Royal Gardeners and The Natural History of Britain for the BBC. He was also seen hosting some of the BBC Proms (including the last night).
Alan Titchmarsh is also a successful novelist credits include Mr MacGregor, The Last Lighthouse Keeper, Animal Instinct Only Dad, Rosie and more recently The Scarlet Nightingale. His memoirs Trowel & Error were published in 2002 but he later published a further three books. The latest was a three book set called Collected Memoirs published in 2016
He was honoured with an MBE in the 1999 New Year’s Honours List.
Moving away from gardening and with Alan hitting his 70s he decided to do a bit of stage acting. He appeared in the final act in Sister Act: The Musical as The Pope.
