Miriam Stoppard, M.D., DSc, FRCP, DCL, has been at the forefront of the revolution in health information since she began her writing and broadcasting career in the early 1970s. Since that time she has become well-known to millions all over the world as a leading authority on parenting, child care, women’s health, and many other crucial health issues.
Her blend of medical training (Universities of London and Durham), business connections (she has been Director of a number of companies ranging from pharmaceuticals to interior design and started up her own company MSL in 2001), and direct experience of the problems of ordinary people (she answers readers letters in a daily column in The Daily Mirror, read by 7 million people every day), have made her uniquely qualified as a business woman, writer and broadcaster.
Miriam has enjoyed 18 years on television as a much-loved medical authority. Her show ‘Wheres the Life’ (ITV) experienced peak viewing figures of over 10 million. Other acclaims include ‘So You Want to Stop Smoking’ (BBC), ‘Baby & Co’ (ITV) not to mention numerous network radio engagements. She currently appears as resident health expert on Matthew Wright’s popular morning show ‘The Wright Stuff’ as well as making regular contributions to ITV1’s ‘This Morning’ and the news output of the major terrestrial channels.
Miriam has published over 50 books translated into 37 languages selling in excess of 25 million copies worldwide. In addition to her page in The Daily Mirror, Miriam has a regular page in ‘Tesco Baby Club Magazine’ and ‘Top Sant’.
Dr Stoppard’s popularity as writer and broadcaster is down to her ability to be frank about controversial subjects in a user friendly and caring way, championing people’s right to ‘sound, honest, realistic information’. She always bases her work on a solid foundation of proven scientific research, whatever the subject area she is tackling.
Her proficiency in delivering clear messages and motivational advice have made her an adept presenter of many government, corporate and charity videos and chair at numerous seminars and conferences. (Clients have included Procter & Gamble, Heinz, Department of Health, Johnson & Johnson, Glaxo, B.T, British Gas.)
In 1998 she was made a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in recognition of her work in promoting health issues, and more recently Miriam was voted the most respected and trusted ‘UK Baby Guru’ in a survey of over 3,000 mums nationwide (Bounty Oct ’05). She has two honorary doctorates of science and one of civil law.
Her four sons and two stepdaughters have been joined by eleven grandchildren. She is married to Sir Christopher Hogg.
