Colin Nicklas was diagnosed with a broken ankle in 2010. This was an unhealed injury he had walked around on for the preceding 6 months. Nine weeks later, despite initial reluctance from his Doctor, Colin completed the world’s toughest footrace. It was an ultra-endurance event in the Sahara Desert called the Marathon des Sables.
He now draws on his experiences during that event, and a lifetime of leadership and people development, to deliver inspirational and motivational talks.
Royal Navy:
Colin joined the Royal Navy as an engineer officer in January 1988; he was 18. In a career that spanned 24 years he deployed to the Gulf, the Arctic and the Far East. He also was deployed in the Caribbean, Central America and South Africa.
When not in system engineering roles, Colin Nicklas also specialises in developing the leaders of the future. He finished his military career in strategic planning for the Ministry of Defence in Whitehall.
Since leaving the Royal Navy, Colin has worked as a business consultant, an executive and performance coach, a leadership development expert and an inspirational speaker. He has continued to travel widely, and added Canada and the US West Coast, West Africa, South East Asia and Australia and the South Pacific to his working geography.
At Easter in 2010, Colin completed the infamous Marathon des Sables in the Moroccan Sahara Desert. This was despite the significant ankle injury. The MdS is a multi-stage ultra-endurance event, that covered 250km for the 25th anniversary edition of the event.
In temperatures reaching 52°C and also carrying all the equipment and food needed to survive in the desert for 7 days, Colin completed the 6 stages and claimed his finishers’ medal.
Colin Nicklas combines the lessons he learned during the Marathon des Sables with his professional knowledge and experience. He delivers inspirational talks on how to succeed in life or business.
Covering leadership and teamwork, motivation and resilience, and the significance of belief among others, Colin delivers high impact, inspiring talks. His style is engaging and captivating; generating tears and laughter with humour and a powerful connection with his audience.
