Credentials and Impact
Alan’s career began with 17 years of distinguished service as a Royal Marine Commando, operating in some of the most demanding environments in the world. By the age of 30, he had visited over 50 countries and mastered a range of survival disciplines, qualifying as a diver, paramedic, ski survival instructor and parachutist. His transition from the military to polar exploration saw him plan and lead the first British team to reach the Geographic North Pole unsupported in 2000, completing a 70-day journey from Canada that cemented his reputation as one of Britain’s great modern explorers.
He has since undertaken over a dozen North Pole expeditions with business leaders and dignitaries, completed the gruelling Yukon Arctic Ultra Challenge, crossed Greenland as part of the Feet of Green initiative and skied across Iceland in winter. In 2003 and 2005, Alan worked with the England Rugby and Cricket teams ahead of their World Cup and Ashes victories, helping shape their winning mindsets. His leadership expertise has been sought by global clients including Facebook, BP and the NHS, and his insights continue to empower teams to perform under pressure and lead with clarity.
