Alasdair Fraser

Alasdair Fraser is a well-known face on BBC ALBA and BBC Scotland television news programmes.

Isle of Lewis born and bred, Alasdair is a fluent Gaelic speaker and has worked across a wide range of bilingual roles over the years. He is a well established Scottish newsreader, regularly appearing on Reporting Scotland’s late evening and weekend television news bulletins as well as BBC ALBA’s nightly flagship news programme, An Là. In addition to domestic news, Alasdair has a very strong interest in foreign affairs and travel. He has worked for the award-winning European current affairs television series Eòrpa for over ten years – reporting on some of the biggest news stories across Europe and securing exclusive interviews with European political leaders.

Alasdair Fraser has many strings to his bow and regularly presents live from a number sporting events for BBC ALBA… from the Commonwealth Games in Delhi and Glasgow, the London Olympics and more recently the World Island Games in Rhodes, Bermuda and Jersey.

Off-screen Alasdair Fraser has hosted many charity events and awards ceremonies, including the first ever Daily Record National Gaelic Awards in Edinburgh.  Alasdair has hosted the Celtic Film and Television Awards, an event which showcases the best talent in the media industry across the UK, Ireland and beyond.  He is also in demand for voiceover work.

Alasdair Fraser is passionate about Scottish food and drink – but as expected from a true islander, he admits that nothing comes close to the Stornoway black pudding or Isle of Harris gin!
