Carl Miller is co-founder and research director for The Centre for the Analysis of Social Media (CASM) at Demos. Demos are the UK’s leading cross-party political think tank. Carl leads a team examining how the rise of the digital world and AI affects politics, society, crime, journalism, warfare, business and also our everyday lives. His speaking clients range from Shell to the UK Parliament and the Home Office.
Carl speaks to audiences around the world about what the digital revolution means to them and how they can stay ahead of the curve. He won the US-Paris Tech Challenge in 2021.
In 2018 Carl Miller released his first book: The Death of the Gods: The New Global Power Grab. Here he discusses the global affect of Social Media. How one Tweet can ruin a politician and then have a knock on effect in Government. How social media can stop a giant global company in it’s tracks overnight. It can also start a riot in our city streets. Carl talks on how on-line crime is now bigger than crime off-line. The book was the winner of the Transmission Prize in 2019.
Carl Miller also presents programmes for the BBC’s weekly flagship technology show, Click. He has also written for Wired, the New Scientist, the Sunday Times, the Telegraph and the Guardian. He’s a Visiting Research Fellow at King’s College London and a Senior Fellow at the Institute of Strategic Dialogue. Also, Carl is a Fellow at the Global Initiative against Transnational Organised Crime. He is an Associate of the Imperial War Museum and also a member of the Society Board of the British Computing Society.
