Chris’s impact began on the world stage in 1992, when he won Olympic Gold in the Individual Pursuit at the Barcelona Games; a victory that not only transformed his own career but also reignited Britain’s interest in cycling. After retiring from competition at just 32, Chris moved into technical and leadership roles, becoming Technical Adviser to the British Road and Track teams. In 2017, he became Greater Manchester’s Walking and Cycling Commissioner, before progressing to Greater Manchester Transport Commissioner in 2021.
