Cillian Sheridan is an Irish professional footballer and media personality from Bailieborough, County Cavan. A strong all-round athlete growing up, he first excelled in Gaelic football. This was before rejecting an offer from Australian Rules team Brisbane Lionesses and instead turning to soccer in his mid-teens. This was also a decision that would take him from rural Ireland to the heart of European football.
Cillian Sheridan’s Early Days:
At just 17, Cillian joined Celtic FC. He made an early impact at Celtic Park, after scoring on his full debut he featured in the Champions League and played under respected managers, including Gordon Strachan.
Over a career spanning nearly two decades, Cillian Sheridan has represented clubs across Scotland, England, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Poland, Israel, and New Zealand. This is as well as earning caps for the Republic of Ireland – where he played under the legendary Giovanni Trapattoni. Along the way, he’s faced some of the game’s biggest names – such as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Rio Ferdinand, Wayne Rooney and Neymar, and has built up a wealth of experience across different leagues, cultures, and styles of football.
Cillian’s career is marked by adaptability and consistency. These are qualities that have allowed him to stay competitive and also relevant in a constantly changing sport.
Current Team:
Now based in Glasgow, Cillian continues to play with Brechin City FC. He does this while balancing his time between training, writing, and the golf course. Outside football, he has become a familiar voice in sports media. Cillian has had appearances on popular football podcasts including Open Goal and Under The Cosh, BBC Sportsound and BBC Sportscene. He is also a regular contributor to the BBC Scottish Football Podcast.
