Craig Chalmers originally played rugby for Melrose. He went on to play for Scotland and was capped 60 times. Not long after his first Scottish international game, Craig was called to The British Lions to later be part of the Lions 1989 Australian tour.
Whilst playing in a Scotland versus England game at Twickenham, Craig broke his arm. This pulled him out of the Lions New Zealand tour in 1993. Between 89 and 01, Craig Chalmers ended up playing in thirteen games with the Barbarians RFC.
Coach:
2003 saw Craig back in Melrose as their first team coach but also continuing his playing career up until 2005. During his time at Melrose, Craig had played two hundred times for the club. Not long after, Melrose won the championship for the 1st time in fourteen years. They also won the award for Club of the Season.
Coaching continued and it didn’t take long before Craig was named Coach for the Scotland under 20’s team. His coaching talents had been spotted by the Barbarians who also took Craig on for their annual game against Bedford Blues. Other coaching positions for Craig came with Oxford and London clubs.
Business and Rugby:
Rugby is in Craig’s family.
