Dan Mills is a former Army Warrant Officer who served in the forces for 24 years, seeing active service on numerous operations in Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Dan enlisted aged just 16, as a boy soldier in 1984, joining The Queens Regiment (now The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment).
Best known for his leadership of a sniper platoon during fierce fighting in Iraq, Dan has extensive experience of some of the most hostile places in the world.
Dan Mills was awarded a ‘Mention in Despatches’ for Gallantry in March 2005, on the Operational Honours and Awards List, published in The London Gazette. Under Dan’s command, his platoon became so effective at destroying enemy attacks, that after the fighting had subsided, enemy leaders stated they thought the position was defended by an entire SAS Squadron.

During a 23 day period, the small beleaguered force faced 595 mortar rounds, 230 bombardments, 57 RPG attacks (Rocket Propelled Grenades) and 5 Chinese 107mm rockets. Dan’s snipers fought against an estimated 500 militia, were involved in 25 fire-fights in town and repelled 86 ground assaults on their base, in what has been described as the lengthiest defensive stand since Korea.
Since leaving the Army in 2010, Dan has written The Sunday Times number one bestselling book Sniper One, the blistering true story of a British battle group under siege. Dan has also co-authored several other books.
As well as speaking and writing military history, Dan is currently a military consultant to the film industry and has appeared in several documentaries, most notably, Tour of Duty for ITV.
