Fiona Armstrong’s full title these days is, Lady MacGregor of MacGregor. She is also Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Dumfries but still remains best know for her work as one of the main news anchors on both ITV and BBC. Fiona covered news, features and sport and still presents the evening news programme for ITV Border. She still makes films, having presented a countryside series for ITV and a local history series.
Fiona Armstrong started at ITN as a newscaster and reporter, presenting all the main news bulletins there. Major stories included reports on Aids orphans in Africa and the Lockerbie air disaster. Since leaving ITN she has worked for GMTV, BBC World News, Sky TV, Carlton Food Network and NBC. She has also worked for BBC Radio Two and Radio Four. Her programmes covered subjects from fishing to cooking, from health to antiques. For NBC, she travelled the world to interview famous business people. For her fishing films for Sky TV, she went to Alaska and Canada in search of the big one
She has written two cookbooks and two fishing books and also contributes to magazines and newspapers. Her speciality is Scotland she has made more than a dozen films and videos on Scottish clans and Rabbie Burns.
Fiona is a patron of Cumbria’s Woman of the Year, and of the Blairgowrie Book Festival. She is also a judge on the Lakeland Book of the Year, and is Chairwoman of the Clan Armstrong Trust. She has worked with children’s charities and cancer charities, both in Scotland and Cumbria, and is on the board of the University of Central Lancashire.
Fiona Armstrong also chairs conferences and seminars and is a highly skilled conference facilitator and after dinner speaker. She has a wealth of experience hosting events and award ceremonies, both at home and abroad.
Fiona Armstrong lives in the Scottish borders and in her spare time she likes to fish and cook.
