Gary Innes is one of Scotland’s most recognisable voices. With two prime-time programmes on BBC Radio Scotland – Saturday night’s Take the Floor and Sunday night’s Your Requests with Gary Innes. Gary presents two of the most listened to shows on the national station. Gary’s personality, craic and wit are weekly household favourites across the country and beyond.
Manran:
Alongside this Gary Innes is also one of the founding members and accordion player with the incredibly successful Scottish trad-rock band Mànran. Mànran have numerous award-winning albums under their belt. They have travelled to over 30 countries around the world playing to audiences in their thousands.
BBC Radio 2’s Mark Radcliffe once described Gary Innes as a “Jack of all Trades and a Master of all”. Nowhere is this more accurate than when it comes to his presenting and speaking skills. Gary is available to do hosting and speaking across a whole range of events. With his experience of presenting on radio and television, alongside being one of the front men of Mànran, where he entertains and welcomes thousand-strong audiences to their concerts across the world – Gary is renowned for always reading the room and ensuring his tone and delivery is not only appropriate but entertaining and engaging.
As if this all wasn’t enough Gary Innes is also a shinty man. He is a living legend in the world of Scotland’s national sport. A 5-time winner of the sport’s leading accolade, the Camanachd Cup, and a former Scotland Captain. Gary is one of very few players to have won every senior medal in shinty. Since retiring he can now be seen reporting from the side-lines or heard in the commentary box at televised shinty matches.
Music and Fire Fighting:
Gary Innes has many more tales to tell. He was an auxiliary Fire Fighter for 15 years and a First Responder for 9 in his hometown of Spean Bridge in the Highlands of Scotland. Gary is also the first person to write, record and release a charity folk single. He raised money for Scotland’s Veteran charity, Erskine. Gary was also named Scotland’s Instrumentalist of the Year. He has also been nominated for a Celtic Media Award for the BBC series Six Men. This is a documentary written by Gary that highlights the worrying issue of men’s mental health and suicide in his native Highlands.
Gary Innes continues to feature on a range of television programmes. These have included, Sky Sports, Transworld Sport, Landward and many other shows across BBC Scotland and BBC ALBA. Gary was honoured to be appointed the Chieftain of Bute Highland Games in 2023.
He has also presented and performed at various events from the World Peace Concert on Oman in 2009 to the London 2012 Olympics. Also at many Burns Suppers across the world, from as far-flung places as Shanghai and Kazakhstan. Gary has performed many a ‘Toast Tae The Lassies’ throughout this time while often performing a few tunes to accompany the evening.
He joined the Scottish rock legends Runrig on stage for many of their outdoor concerts. These include their ‘Last Dance’ below Stirling Castle to over 50,000 people.
