John Gahagan is a former footballer, now after dinner speaker. He is considered by many, as one of the best speakers in Scotland. As a footballer, he spent eleven years with Motherwell FC. This was the club he had supported as a boy. He played under such famous men as Ally McLeod, Davie Hay, Jock Wallace and Tommy McLean. John won two first division championship medals in 1981 and also in 1985.
After a glorious testimonial season in 1990, John Gahagan moved to Greenock Morton. Here he also spent four years under his favourite manager, Alan McGraw. This was before retiring in 1994
John Gahagan is also a fully qualified coach holding an A diploma. He spent 3 very successful years as the S.F.A. football development officer in Clackmannanshire. John’s tales of woe about life in and out of football have whipped up a comical storm at every conceivable venue. These include the Scottish Sports Writers and also the Scottish Footballers Association Player of the Year Awards. John received standing ovations on both occasions.
In June 2001, John Gahagan received the MBN trophy after being voted Scottish Sporting Speaker of the Year. John is now considered one of Scotland’s top Sportsman’s dinner speakers.
Whether flirting with triumph or disaster, John Gahagan’s philosophy has always been the same, You’ve got to laugh.
