We had a marvellous Annual Dinner on Saturday when Hoggy was our guest speaker. Hoggy mingled with members and guests pre-dinner, gave a brilliant talk about his cricketing experiences which was very well received by ALL the audience and then followed it with a very entertaining Q & A session. Nothing was too much trouble for Hoggy with numerous photographs and signings being requested – he certainly enhanced our evening and I would thoroughly recommend him. Thanks, Hoggy you’re a star.

Matthew Hoggard is one of England’s most successful international cricketers, best known as a key member of the 2005 Ashes-winning team. Renowned for his swing bowling, he played 67 Tests and became the sixth-highest wicket-taker in England’s history with 248 wickets. His career highlights include a match-winning hat-trick in 2004, memorable spells in series victories in the West Indies and India, and vital contributions to the famous Ashes triumph. Recognised with an MBE in 2006, Matthew remains an iconic figure in English cricket.

Matthew’s cricketing journey began with Yorkshire before he rose to prominence on the international stage, helping England secure their first series win in the West Indies for 36 years. His performances in India in 2001/2002 established him as England’s strike bowler, and he delivered consistently against the world’s best batting line-ups. Known for his discipline and ability to move the ball both ways, he reached the rare milestone of an England Test hat-trick in 2004 and was ranked the fourth-best Test bowler in the world in 2006.
