Rory McGrath, born March 3, 1956 is a British comedian, writer and TV presenter.
He wrote and appeared in the The 1977 Cambridge Footlights Revue on the BBC in 1977. He then went on to write for Not The Nine O’clock News and Alas Smith And Jones.
In the mid 1980’s Rory co-founded Hat Trick Productions. One of the first productions which Rory helped write and starred in was Channel 4’s Chelmsford 123. This was a sitcom set in Roman Britain in 123 AD! Hat Trick went on to produce many famous comedy shows, some still running today. These include Father Ted, Whose Line Is It Anyway and Have I Got News For You.
Rory was seen as a regular team captain in the quiz show They Think Its All Over which at that time had been running for more than 10 series and pulled in an average audience of nine million.
In 2006 Rory starred in the BBC’s Three Men In A Boat series, alongside Dara O Briain and Griff Rhys Jones. The series has seen the boys travel the length and breadth of Britain and beyond. The series has been so successful, that the BBC later produced Three Men in Another Boat, Three Men in More Than One Boat, Three Men go to Ireland, Three Men go to Scotland and Three Men go to Venice.
In 2016 Rory presented two series of The Lakes, a documentary show about the Lake District. That same year he took part in ITV’s Sugar Free Farm. Rory gave up all forms of sugar for two weeks.
2022 sees Rory take part in a BBC special edition of Pointless Celebrities.
