Sophie Raworth is BBC’s main presenter of BBC News at Six which she has been doing for almost 20 years. She has also been an occasional presenter on the BBC’s News at Ten. Sophie has been with the BBC now for 30 years. She joined the BBC as a trainee back in 1992.
Sophie made her film debut (so to speak), when she had a cameo appearance in Bruce Willis’ 2013 film, “A Good Day to Die Hard”. She played herself at the start of the film. Three years later she was back in the movies and again playing herself in Absolutely Fabulous. In 2013 Sophie was awarded an honorary Doctor of Arts by City University in London.
Outside of the news, Sophie has reported on BBC1’s flagship science show Tomorrow’s World and fronted her own science series Dream Lives as well as the BBC1 daytime quiz show Judgemental. In 2003 Sophie presented BBC2’s live astrological event All Night Star Party. She joined the BBC in 1992 as a news reporter, first for Greater Manchester Radio and then as BBC Regions correspondent in Brussels in 1994.
In May 1995, she became the regular joint presenter of BBC’s Look North programme in Leeds. It was in 1997 she then moved to BBC Breakfast.
Sophie has presented a number of notable BBC specials, including The Royal Wedding and the Queen’s Golden Jubilee and Our Monarchy – the Next 50 Years, both alongside David Dimbleby.
She presented Watchdog Daily in 2012 and Watchdog Test House in 2014-15. She later took over Anne Robinson’s role, as the main presenter of Watchdog. In 2016 Sophie became the main presenter of Crimewatch. This was a post previously held by Kirsty Young and one she had guest presented on, four years earlier.
In January 2022 Sophie took over as presenter of The Andrew Marr Show. The show was renamed Sunday Morning. The position was supposed to be temporary but she’s still there.
The RHS Chelsea Flower Show returned live in May 2022 after two years of Covid. Sophie was the BBC’s main host for the duration of the show.
