Tanni Grey-Thompson, or Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson DBE as she is now known, is one of the UK’s most successful Paralympic athlete.
In combination with her superb wit and lively personality, her ample experience from the worlds of sport, business and also politics makes her an unusually inspiring speaker and motivator.
She is Chair of UKactive and a Non-Executive Director of the BBC. Tanni Grey-Thompson is also a Board Member of the London Legacy Development Corporation. She was an active member of UK Athletics, encouraging British youth to take up sports.
She competed in five Paralympic Games, winning 16 medals of which 11 were Gold.
Tanni also won the London Wheelchair Marathon a total of six times. During her time as a competitive athlete, Tanni Grey-Thompson broke 30 world records.
In 2005 Tanni Grey-Thompson was made a Dame. Later in 2010 she was made a Life Peer. This saw her taking her seat in the House of Lords. Her title is now Baroness Grey-Thompson, of Eaglescliffe in the County of Durham.
Among others Tanni is a trustee of the Sportsaid Foundation and The British Institute of Human Rights. Also she is a trustee of The Stadium of Light Foundation and The Duke of Edinburgh Award. In 2015 she became Chancellor of Northumbria University.
