Valerie Maclennan was born and raised on the beautiful fishing town of Stornoway, Isle of Lewis in the Highlands of Scotland. Moving to the central belt of Scotland in her teenage years, Valerie has been blessed with having a lovely spoken voice, and a dry sense of humour! She has always used her interest in spirituality, and her belief and faith in a power much greater than herself, to help her through many challenges that she has had to face in her life, and also used this knowledge over the years to offer emotional support and encouragement to many others.
Valerie Maclennan said, “ If you attend a motivational course or listen to a speaker and leave assuming that is your life sorted, then good luck with that one”! She asks “how many times have you heard people saying, I felt really motivated for a few days and then slowly returned to my normal state of being, and would need to attend the course every few days to keep my momentum!”
“I have spoken to people over the years who mentioned that when they were delivering a talk, or any form of public speaking , that they felt like a fake, as if they were speaking the words, but they had learned those from a book or a speaker, and were not being their authentic selves, so they themselves did not relate to the words that they were speaking, so the audience did not react in the way that the person had hoped on the day, so in that situation it is sadly a no win for either side.”
Why do we feel we have to wear a mask, a disguise, and mimic the words of a different speaker-coach to deliver our own talk? You are unique, you’re story is different to mine, and that is what makes it all so worthwhile. We all have the ability to help others by utilising the experiences we have had in our own lives to help others, but this is not possible if we are speaking from a different person’s life story.
“Be yourself, there is nothing wrong with you’re own story. You have the wisdom and life experience within.”
Valerie Maclennan is a speaker with a deep sense of knowing her inner power. She is very aware of the gift that we all have living within ourselves, and has utilised it all of her life. It has been her anchor in the dark times, and hope for the future. She believes that humour is a key to lifting the mind and spirit, and uses laughter in her story telling style to engage the audience.
Valerie said, “ I believe in the importance of offering a keen listening ear, encouragement, empathy and understanding with others, and the key is making others feel that they are being heard. We are living in extremely challenging times and the need for a sense of emotional and spiritual security is palpable.”
Valerie has also in the past produced and hosted, live Talk Shows in Scotland, interviewing well known personalities from the business and entertainment world, and previously presented her own radio programme, interviewing well known personalities in relation to their faith and how it impacted on their business lives.
Valerie Maclennan does not offer a text book, formal style of speaking engagement, she is very relaxed, informative and tends to include story telling and laughter to reach her listening ears !
