Nicky’s career began with a commission into the British Army, where she built her expertise across training, operational and leadership roles. She held a series of command appointments, developing her reputation as a values-driven leader able to motivate and deliver results through people.
Her career also included a pivotal role as Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Defence, where she worked at the heart of Government. During this period, she supported ministers through politically sensitive and fast-moving operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and Sierra Leone. The appointment demanded exceptional judgement, resilience under pressure and the ability to manage competing priorities during times of intense parliamentary and media scrutiny.
Since leaving the Army in 2012, Nicky has channelled her experience into her consultancy, What Good Leadership Looks Like. Through this work, she partners with leading organisations across sectors such as finance, energy, law, healthcare, construction, transport and media, helping them strengthen leadership capability, build talent pipelines and embed sustainable cultural change.
