Mark Gallagher is a Formula One racing executive. He has one of the most successful track records in the business of senior leadership. This is within F1 and the motor sport industry in general.
Currently MD of Performance Insights, a consulting business, Mark is a regular consultant, writer, commentator and author. He is renowned as one of the top experts in his field. For nearly 40 years Mark Gallagher has been associated with such names as Jordan Grand Prix and Red Bull. Also Cosworth and Status Grand Prix (Caterham).
Early Days:
It was in the early 80’s when Mark had been writing and broadcasting on Formula 1, when he moved to consulting for some of the motor sports industry’s main sponsors. He teamed up with the now legendary Eddie Jordan OBE. The position was press officer for Jordan Grand Prix. This was the team who gave Michael Schumacher his very first F1 race in 1991. After a short spell with Pacific Racing and then Ford’s World Rally Championship programme, Mark returned to Jordan as their Head of Marketing. He later joined the Jordan Grand Prix board.
Moving on to 2004. It was now Jaguar Racing (Ford invested) who now benefitted from the Mark Gallagher Formula One magic. Ford weren’t particularly happy that such huge amounts of money were being invested with little mention of Ford so in 2004 Red Bull announced they had purchased the whole Jaguar F1 team including Mark Gallagher and renamed them Red Bull Racing.
2009 saw Mark take up his position as Head of Cosworth’s F1 engine business.
Radio & TV:
Mark has been at the forefront of motor racing commentary for many years. He has and still works for the BBC, Channel 4, America’s CNN and CNBC and also Al Jazeera’s News. He is a regular contributor to Grand Prix Racing Magazine, writing columns and features and he is involved with a couple of podcasts, At The Controls and Inside Formula One alongside Finnish former F1 driver Mika Häkkinen.
Book:
Mark originally wrote The Business of Winning: Insights in Transformation from F1 to the Boardroom in 2014 but this link is to the updated 2021 second edition. It’s an account of Mark’s many years in the F1 industry and what it takes to be a success. Mark talks on the competitiveness, high stakes and the huge financial outlays within the business and the demands he had to meet to succeed in F1.
Mark is available to speak on the subjects of Leadership, Change Management, Safety & Risk Management and Team Work. He is also happy to partake in Q&A sessions with a number of Formula One drivers including David Coulthard, Mika Häkkinen and Jacques Villeneuve.
