Sam Ruddock – Ambassador for Inspire+ & Competitor in Three Paralympic Games
Sam Ruddock is a Paralympic athlete, para-cycling world champion, and inspirational speaker whose remarkable journey from sprinter to shot putter to cyclist has made him one of Britain’s most versatile Paralympians. Born with spastic diplegia, a form of cerebral palsy affecting his lower body, Sam has defied every limitation to compete at the highest level across three Paralympic Games—London 2012, Rio 2016 and Paris 2024. A two-time MC1 Kilometre World Champion, athlete mentor and ambassador, Sam’s story is one of resilience, adaptability and an unrelenting pursuit of excellence.
Credentials and Impact
Sam’s sporting journey began when he was talent-spotted while studying at Loughborough University, leading to his selection for Team GB at the London 2012 Paralympic Games, where he competed in the T35 sprint events. Demonstrating his trademark determination, he transitioned to shot put in 2014, going on to represent Great Britain at the Rio 2016 Paralympics and finishing sixth overall. Refusing to stop there, Sam later discovered para track-cycling, where he truly excelled—winning his first MC1 Kilometre World Championship title in 2022 before successfully defending it in 2023 at the World Championships in Glasgow. Cheered on by cycling icon Sir Chris Hoy, his victory cemented his place among the sport’s elite.
Beyond his athletic achievements, Sam serves as an Athlete Mentor for the Youth Sport Trust and an Ambassador for Inspire+, helping young people develop confidence, motivation and resilience through sport. His passion for empowering others makes him a respected figure both on and off the track.
