Laura Miller is the face of BBC Scotland’s main news programme, Reporting Scotland. She is a journalist with almost twenty years of broadcasting experience.
It was in 2019 when BBC’s Reporting Scotland legendary regular presenter Jackie Bird stepped down after almost thirty years on the programme. Laura Miller took over on the next day and has remained ever since.
From STV to BBC:
No stranger to television, Laura had previously been a reporter and presenter with STV news, who she joined in 2007. She had come to the channels attention, when not long after graduating university, she produced a documentary on the 2004 tsunami which won an award. She then went on to be STV’s main presenter of their News at Six.
Laura Miller has been on the front line of reporting and presenting news in Scotland for the past two decades and has covered some of the biggest stories of recent times, from the Independence Referendum, to the Covid pandemic, the COP 26 climate conference, Olympic and Commonwealth Games, Prime Ministerial and First Ministerial appointments and resignations… and everything in between.
She studied Law and French at Glasgow University and has an MA in broadcast journalism from Falmouth University in Cornwall.
Marvel:
In 2018 Laura was spotted in the Hollywood blockbuster superhero movie, Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War. Here she played herself reading the STV news, for which she was credited on screen. This is one of the things Laura Miller is often asked about. She actually knew nothing about it until the story appeared in newspaper movie reviews. To this date, she still hasn’t seen the film.
