Brandon Cook is a news presenter and journalist who has quickly become one of the most recognisable faces on STV North.
After leaving school at 17 – Brandon briefly studied engineering with a focus on renewable energies. A chance opportunity to interview the manager of his local football club, Greenock Morton, for college TV quickly ignited his ambitions towards broadcasting.
Televison:
After graduating from the University of the West of Scotland – Brandon started his journalism career on local television. Here he reported across Glasgow and the west, before moving to BBC Scotland. Here he worked across various news and current affairs programmes.
At 22 he moved across the country to become STV News’ newest on screen reporter. He was based in Aberdeen working for the flagship STV News at Six and Scotland Tonight programmes. Here he covered issues across the North, from Perth to Lerwick and everywhere in between.
Through his time at STV News, Brandon has reported across the biggest stories of the last few years. He covered Covid, NHS pressures, COP26, oil and gas, elections and royal deaths. Also, the spiralling cost of living, industrial strikes, deadly weather events and international disasters. He’s been nominated for a Royal Television Society award twice and of course, covered some lighter stuff too!
Sport:
Brandon Cook is also a frequent face of STV Sport coverage – often stepping in to the studio to present the sports desk. Or reporting from location – usually a football stadium ahead of a big match or delivering some breaking news. Brandon was also part of the STV News team who covered the 150th Open in St Andrews – there, amongst many interviews – he spoke with golf’s all time great Jack Nicklaus.
Off air Brandon loves spending time with his beautiful family and friends – he visits home often to see his younger sister who has Down Syndrome and type one diabetes. He regularly likes to raise awareness of her conditions and highlights the importance of young carers.
In time off he likes to travel – even if it’s just for a couple of days – Brandon loves a new adventure. During university Brandon spent a year living in Germany. There, he travelled to many Budesliga matches as a freelance sports reporter. While – a little further back – Brandon spent some formative years growing up in Southern Spain and was proficient in Spanish as a child.
When weather permits Brandon is on a golf course – usually putting in another mediocre round (his words not ours!)
A keen football fan, Brandon also likes to watch a game out with a work capacity whenever possible. He’s a keen kayaker and during lockdown he took up wild swimming.
Brandon is a great experienced young engaging presenter – whose fun personality makes him a perfect choice to host awards nights, event nights or to moderate on stage discussions.
He’s experienced in hosting events which have raised tens of thousands for charity. Brandon Cook has also helped companies on media training days and delivered key note speeches at university graduations.
